For my midterm exam, I decided to look through the digital collections of the Yale Library and geolocated a map using ArcGIS. This map of the city of New Haven seemed like an interesting choice to me; and, upon comparing the 1852 map with Google’s modern map of New Haven, it is clear that several areas of the city have been changed. Thus, with the help of ArcGIS, I have geolocated this old map of New Haven and created a site to present it.
Hi Max, this is a great project! I really appreciate the details you added, particularly the different roads and the expansion areas. It adds a good deal of depth in terms of historical information, even if you were uncertain regarding the exact placement. I also think the way you displayed the information on your webpage was very successful in communicating the information.
I really like your project max! I think that the accuracy and detail when it comes to the roads and even the lakes look great, and I think it gives a really good glance into the historical context of New Haven! I also really appreciate the theme and organization of your website, and I think you do a really good job of presenting the information. Overall, I really like it. Do you think you’ll utilize georeferencing in the future?
Max, this is a super cool project! The final product is interesting and I think your website is very nicely put together. It really highlights your final product while also being pleasant to interact with. If we were given more time, it would be interesting to see at what rate the land expansion occurred at/if there were any significant periods of construction.
