In this garden, the viewing shelter is literally placed at the center, making it a primary place for viewing the whole garden. As it is modeled after a waiting shelter in a tea garden, the shelter gains its stucco walls, wooden frame and a thatched roof.
I made a 3D model using Scaniverse, as the application is not for professional usage, the progress wasn’t smooth: it failed to recognize the roof and the wooden sticks on the window. Despite some of the flaws made by the application, the 3D model is definitely a better view compared to a photo. With an interactive 3D model, viewers can have a multifaceted sense of the whole building as they can get views from different positions through turning the model.
During the progress of the photogrammetry, I have to closely scan every corner of the shelter. Before doing that, the only thing I knew about the viewing shelter was that there was a building with a wooden branch. While doing the scan, I noticed the stucco walls and the rocks surrounding the building. Therefore, it really encourages close looking to the features. Next time, I may try other ways of making 3D models and see the differences.

Hello Peter,
I appreciate how you overcame the flaws in the application during your project. I think that, for the three different software programs we’ve used, it is hard to adapt to these new tools. However, from the process, we are able to really learn how powerful these tools are on presenting a new perspective on viewing our world. I would also argue that it is definitely important to learn these tools.
What I found interesting was that the creation of the 3D model actually made you realize new aspects of the shelter that you never really noticed. This is an example of the application of photogrammetry not only to the creation of a digital model but in other ways as well. What I agree with is that a 3D model allows the viewer to have a greater appreciation of the structure compared to a norml photograph. Do you think an upgraded scanning device solve the roof problem?
