This project uses Allmaps and ArcGIS to georeference a historical Pennsylvania Railroad map, allowing viewers to explore and compare nineteenth-century railroad networks with modern geography.
Hi Joey, I really like how you used historical maps to explore the Pennsylvania Railroad and its connections between cities. Specifically, the overlay with a modern map makes it much easier to understand the railroad network. In addition, your discussion about the challenges of choosing accurate control points is interesting, since historical maps aren’t always geographically accurate, which happened in our previous class exercises.
Hi Joey! I really like how you used georeferencing to connect a historical railroad map with modern geography. The challenges you described, especially finding accurate control points, also highlight how historical maps can differ from modern representations. I think the overlay is an effective way to make historical transportation networks more accessible and visually understandable.
