Wait, no, not like the fanfiction site…

Getting a personal website was a pretty cool experience. In my post about making graphs with code instead of a template website, I talked about the expansion of personal detailed control, and being able to specify each component of the design and presentation. Similarly, https://lackm.sites.carleton.edu/ is all configurable, down to the color that text is highlighted upon selection.

I’m not quite sure what I will do with the site. I imagine that it would be a pretty solid place to have a portfolio, because I have a lot of small projects laying around in various unrelated corners of the internet. If I decide later on to dive more into Digital Humanities as a field, this could be a place to store assignements and other pieces of content.

I much prefer this model of content creation to a social media platform. With something like Instagram, Reddit, or whatever is being used, you have to compete with the algorithm. Writers on the mass public forums are constantly under pressure to create something optimized for engagement. This certainly increases visibility but stifles full artistic expression. For sure, there is something to be said for the opportunity for free marketing and exposure, however, at the moment that is not one of my goals.
