Lab Assignment Midterm Week 7
Joshua, this project is awesome! It is great how you were able to incorporate so many different skills (geolocating, css, data cleaning, etc.) into this project. I particularly like the multimedia component to this project as it allows you to get a good sense for what the places he visited would have looked like.
I am so floored by this project! Your interactive map was so cool and very easy to follow! I love how you included photos from each place, and the data layout was so clear! I’m curious: would there be any way to label the points on the map so you could chronologically follow his trip without having to guess which spot comes next or where to start?
Hi Joshua,
I really like your project. I am also doing my midterm on mapping, so I can definitely feel that you have overcome similar challenges that I encountered. I think that with historical maps, we notice how they offer an alternative perspective on the world we are used to. One thing I like particularly about your project is how you designed the layout of the website. I hope to achieve a similar level. Nice Job!
Joshua, this is such a cool project. Matching all 341 slides to their IIIF images took real effort, and it pays off. Clicking a point opens Cushman’s own photograph, so the map doubles as a gallery. I loved the detail about his stops in Bloomington and Poseyville, which made the 1963 loop read like a homecoming. One idea could be connecting the points in date order with lines, so viewers can trace each drive stop by stop. Great work!
