Textual Analysis: Knowledge Stems from Thinking

There’s no doubt that AI has made it “easier” for information to be supplied. It may be that someone asks AI to summarize story or provide details that they don’t have time to research. With that in mind, AI can present false information, right? If people are becoming so reliant on these language models, there will probably come a time when they can’t detach themselves from it. At some point, people won’t only choose not to think, but they won’t know how to think for themselves. To analyze textual data, I found it interesting to guide the chat bot. Using Professor Anastasia Salter’s guide was quite beneficial. I think taking it step-by-step and asking supporting questions causes the AI model to provide more accurate details. The more specific the input is, the more specific the output will be.

Given that I had previously read “The Yellow Wallpaper,” I actually found the word cloud Voyant provided to be pretty accurate. From my educated guess, I actually thought that the words presented were the most common. I even believe that they could be used to generate a general summary of the story. Even though the story is about a “mentally-ill” woman, the name John (her husband) is the 2nd-most prominent one, according to Gemini. In scenarios like this, I believe AI can be useful because it can be used to double check information, or spot check errors. It can be a tool used to quickly condense information.

I have my own feelings about the use of AI. Personally, I’d love to become more skilled in the event(s) that I have to use it. However, I’ve always seen the value of using my own brain. When I think of how AI models obtain their “knowledge,” it comes from being trained on human data and information. So, if AI is merely spitting out the work, what makes humans want to back away from thought processes? Humans are what make AI/language as effective as they are-we do the original thinking and we are the knowledge. If anything, I believe that AI should motivate humans to think more critically because without that, AI wouldn’t be functioning.
