thoughts on my decisions during my process
For this assignment, I created a map using ArcGIS. I chose five different locations on the Carleton campus to map. For the symbology portion, I changed it so there were spikes that dictate how frequently I visit the location in a week. I chose this because it was a clear and simple way to represent different frequencies. ArcGIS has several different capabilities. It’s simple to use and makes GIS much more accessible. Outlining key buildings and features is relatively simple. It also has sharing capabilities, which makes it easy to share your map and incorporate features from other people’s maps.

I looked over your map and spreadsheet, and I found them really intriguing. I also agree with your idea on ArcGIS. In your post, you mentioned how ArcGIS makes GIS more accessible and lowers the entry barriers for people. I think this is a really good observation. As someone who is not familiar with advanced mapping tools, I think ArcGIS really showed me the potential of mapping in research.
Hi Matilda, I really like how the symbology you chose for your map clearly identifies differences in frequencies with the spikes. I also agree with your point about the ArcGIS platform making GIS more accessible and collaborative. Creating maps to convey meaningful information seemed pretty difficult before this process, and although there definitely are some challenges, the initial entry to this world isn’t difficult.
