For my lab assignment I chose to design my bed. My bed is obviously very important to me because it’s where I sleep every day in order to be rested for each day.
Overall, it was not very hard, although there were a few areas where I got stuck. Most of the issues came because it was my first time designing something in Fusion, so there were certain applications I was not sure how to use. For example, making the headboard of my bed was difficult at first because I was not familiar with how to “fillet” my shapes, and I had to play around before figuring that out.
One compromise I had to make was not including a blanket. I felt that the natural shape of a blanket was too hard to make for a beginner in Fusion. At first I tried to just make a flat blanket, although it looked like a wooden pong board was on my bed, so I removed it. The pillow was also difficult to make, but I thought my design was close enough to a pillow.
There are many humanistic uses I envision for 3D modeling that could be useful. One example would be using 3D modeling to recreate digital historical objects or buildings for people to interact with online.
One tip I would recommend is using the tab key to switch from one dimension to the other when designing a new 2D shape.
