Creating my own WordPress website was an entirely new venture for me. Prior to taking this class, I had constantly been using websites but I never gave any thought to how they were created or managed. When I first encountered WordPress, it was somewhat baffling to me because of all of the different settings and pages. However, after a bit of trial and error, I began to comprehend the system better and I successfully created a website that is mine.
This website may prove to be helpful to me for the purpose of posting all those project works which I have done during my university life. This website can serve as a personal website as well as through this website I can give an introduction of myself along with my interests.
One of the main advantages of making one’s website lies in the greater control of creation. Unlike the social media, it is up to me what the website will look like, how its structure will be organized, and what kind of content I would like to place there. Besides, I am less dependent on the certain format of the website. The only drawback of having my website is the additional amount of work I should do. It means that I need to learn how the website operates, how to organize it, and how to solve any problems related to some malfunction.

I had a similar experience, Stefan. Creating my own WordPress website was an entirely new venture for me, and all of the different settings and pages looks a bit baffling. I definitely think trial and error with some of these new digital technology is super important, as you can read or watch a tutorial but until you actually get hands on, it can be difficult to fully understand. I like your About Me page, especially the picture with you and another teammate fishing.
I completely relate to having never done anything with web design before. Just like you, I constantly am using websites but haven’t given much thought to how they were made and managed. Do you think that the work that comes with making your own website is worth it as long as you get to share your own creation? Also, do you think that creating the site was worth the trial and error that came with it?
I completely agree that I don’t often think about what goes into website development. I think we get so used to having everything developed that we don’t even consider how much effort people put into creating things. I also agree that having freedom to work on the website’s structure is nice because we can tailor it to personal preferences. Would you ever consider using your website for life post-grad?
Having no web design experience is something i can definitely relate to, and personally made this project really difficult in the decoration process. Additionally, i think the ownership aspect and being able to tailor the sites look to how you feel would suit your content or audience is a really nice bonus. Personally, I also plan to use my website for personal life updates whether school related or just general things.
I like your point about having more control over a personal website compared with social media. I had a similar experience with WordPress, where it felt confusing at first because there were so many settings, but it became easier after experimenting with it. I also think your point about the extra work is important because having more control also means taking responsibility for organizing and maintaining the site. Your post made me think more about the tradeoff between convenience and independence online.
Your ‘about me’ page is great. I too have never given much thought as to how websites are designed. It feels as though any given social media site has their own way of allowing you to navigate through a digital space; it is always easy to tell what is ‘bad’ or ‘outdated’ design but it has become quite difficult to see what design excels because there seems to be a typical format of doing things. I believe this relates to what you mean about not being dependent on the format of the site — as in, you care about the format but do not care about making it any one way. I think that is unique and wise. Going off of your photo I want to ask, what are the specific interests that you would be wanting to share on your site?
