I created this website using WordPress for this week’s lab assignment. I installed Graceful Star Blog Theme and edited the font color for the body paragraph via CSS code.
Future of blog?
I’m not completely sure what I will use this website for. I think for now it could be a fun way to blog about things that happen while here at Carleton. For example, a weekly blog about my progress on comps could be a nice way to reflect on how things have been going in a more casual manner.
Benefits and drawbacks
One benefit is that you can completely customize your website so that it’s exactly to your liking. Also, you and the people visiting your website don’t have to deal with ads which can sometimes get annoying and people can get worried about how their data is being used.
One major drawback is that it may be difficult to get more people to visit your website. It’s relatively easy to create a presence online on social media platforms as millions of people visit the platforms daily and so there’s more traffic. It’s easier for people to find you and so if your aim is to grow a presence whether it’s to sell things or to share your life, it could be more efficient.
I love the theme and colors you chose! I didn’t really think about ads when I wrote my response, but you’re definitely right that it’s nice to see a website without them. I also agree that it’s harder to get people to visit a website than it is for someone to find your social media page. That being said, I was wondering: if your goal is to casually share things, do you find it limiting or freeing that fewer people are reading what you write?
