Mapping the Arb Group Charter

By: Anahita, Jesse, Luke, and Mallory

Values and goals:

We want to not only make an interesting and exciting project, but we want it to offer real value and information to the Carleton community. We don’t want to restate anything or just display a bunch of data; we want to build something novel in some way that contributes to understanding the Arb and Carleton even better. We’re also just excited to work with the materials, particularly the maps.

Expectations:

We are expecting each other to be determined and communicative throughout this project. As a whole, we want each other to stick to deadlines (even if they’re ones that we set for ourselves, not just assignment deadlines), and to split up the work as evenly as possible. We just want to be honest about the amount of work we’re able to put in, and to put in a good-faith effort.

Communication:

We will make a group chat to communicate as quickly and clearly as possible with each other. Additionally, we’ll ensure we are honest and clear with each other if any struggles or roadblocks arise throughout the project.

Disagreement:

If we disagree about the concrete details or the approach to the project itself, we’ll do our best to compromise and meet in the middle; if all else fails, we’ll vote on it and try to be democratic. We’ll also just make sure we tell each other if we’re frustrated with each other or if there is any kind of issue within the project.

Dividing responsibilities:

Jesse is willing and able to spearhead the georeferencing aspect of the project, though we can all contribute and collaborate on these processes (Specifically, he has access to a desktop in the GIS lab, so he can handle more of the ArcGIS Pro aspects, and they provide the rest of us with the web layers). Anahita is confident in the website design and adding design details to our GIS maps. Luke is able to take on more of the writing aspects of our project. Mallory can do more of the research aspects, looking through archive information, photographs, and other data related to the project. That being said, these aspects are not strictly divided up in this way, and everyone is interested in contributing to all of the aspects.
