setting up the website
Setting up my own WordPress website was pretty difficult at first. I had trouble figuring out how to adjust the different blocks and parts of the website. However, after exploring the platform and realizing how many tools were available, the process became much easier. I enjoyed experimenting with different design options and learning how I could customize my website.
What Might I Do with This Platform
I can use this website to share a lot of information that I would like to share with others, such as my blogs, Digital Humanities projects, and other work and ideas. It can be a platform for me to communicate with people around the world who have Internet access and share my interests and projects with them.
Benefits of Having My Own Website
Having my own website gives me much more control over my web design and content. I can decide what I want to post and how I want my website to look. I also think it provides better privacy because I have more control over my information and feel more confident that my data will not be shared somewhere I would not want it to be. Finally, many apps and social media platforms have targeted audiences and algorithms that determine who sees your content. With my own website, I have more freedom to decide who I want my work to be available to.
Great post! I also had a lot of fun designing my page after working through the initial difficulties. I agree that you have a lot more control over the design and content if you use your own web page. I didn’t even think about the privacy aspect—that’s definitely true too! I like how you think privacy is a really important aspect of having an individual website. As someone who values privacy, I think we often ignore how our personal information is exposed on larger platforms when we are unwilling to do so. Nowadays, large corporations are trying to seek our information from every single corner, so I really need my personal space. Most people, however, are not aware of this. It is really hard to determine the boundary when you are on the internet. I’m really glad to see someone like me.
